Chapter 4: "A Little Honey Is Always Nice"
Your glance falls on a rusty white metal sign. The red letters give the instructions for lowering the ladder. Creaking and groaning the ladder goes down, and feeling as creaky as the ladder you climb down. Walking casually so as not to look guilty, you leave the alley for the side walk.
Now it's decision time and the available information is sparse. Should you follow the directions of the unknown, but tantalizingly familiar voice on the phone, or should you get clear of this whole mess as fast and far as possible? The voice could have left you for the cops, so he could be on your side. But maybe he has more use for you and has plans to set you up even more tightly.
You stop at a hotdog stand to buy a dog and look around, hoping for more to work with. A stunning redhead walks out of a shop across the street and looks both ways as if looking for a taxi. No help there. And there, there is a man reading a newspaper at a bus stop. What a cliche. Almost certainly you are being watched. When in doubt punt.
You finish the hot dog and walk briskly down the street. A taxi turns the corner and you flag it down. As you open the rear door, the other door opens and the redhead asks, "which way are you going? Maybe we can share this cab?"
You say, "Beat it lady. I got here first." You say, "Uptown. Are you headed that way?"
